About Woodcuts:

A series of monochrome woodcut prints produced between 1956 and 1962. These cityscapes, landscapes, portraits and seascapes each express dynamic movement through their energetic lines, curves and organic shapes. The graphic boldness, directness and simplicity of the images create the effect of immersing the viewer directly into the feeling evoked by each scene, whether it be the vibrancy of the San Francisco cityscape with its billowing clouds, or the tranquility of the sun-drenched stand of sturdy trunks in Campus Trees. In several of the woodcuts, the flowing lines of the wood grain add texture to the image.
