About Landscapes:
Landscapes are amongst the earliest of themes that Lillian explored in her long career. She began with woodcuts produced in the late 50s/ early 60s, together with oils of San Francisco from the same period. Lillians then rediscovered the attraction of landscape during her annual trips to Greece from the 1980s onwards, expressed in watercolour, oils and pastel.
She would often render the same scene in different pictures, with a variety of media, each time exploring a different way of seeing the same view. Rather than just exploring her artistic skill, it’s as if she were using the power of attention to get to the essence of a subject, inviting the viewer to see something in a way previously unseen.
